SYDNEY (Reuters) - A law student who used taxis to escape with loot from dozens of house break-ins has been jailed after police in Australia caught him red-handed in the back of a cab fleeing his latest heist.
When not studying for a masters degree in law, Phillip Ryan See, 27, used his off-time to rob 43 houses in Sydney's plush harbourside suburbs, netting goods worth more than A$110,000 ($83,000), the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper said on Thursday.

RED BLUFF — All he wanted was a drink, something to eat and a new shirt. Instead, he was arrested and thrown in jail.
So says the Tehama County Sheriff’s Department.
On Friday night, deputies were called to the Gallatin Ranch on Gallatin Road in Red Bluff to reports of a man coming home and finding someone inside his house, the sheriff’s department said.

GALLATIN — A 300-pound lawn ornament has been pignapped.
Thieves picked a solid concrete hog, affectionately dubbed Pig Rock, out of Bob and Mary Ray Mathis' front yard in Gallatin sometime during the night of Sept. 15.
Police were called to investigate the pigfering at 220 Daleview Drive but couldn't root out any leads.
Bob Mathis isn't sure who stole his wife's ornamental, life-size swine stone, but he is confident it was a group heist.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Allen Snyder's garden gnome is apparently out of jail and traveling the country.
The 14-inch tall red-and-white statue disappeared from Snyder's yard in the spring, and Snyder has since received three letters claiming to have been written by "Gnomey."
The latest letter, which Snyder received this week, included photos of the gnome in the company of Steelers fans attending Pittsburgh's football home opener.

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — People got behind and pushed and even offered an impromptu driving lesson to help a boy who was struggling to drive a car — failing to realize that the 14-year-old was stealing the vehicle, police said.
The boy stopped mid-getaway Wednesday to ask for help, and at least 15 people responded, according to Phoenix police. Police said the boy then got stuck in reverse, and more neighbors helped push the car.

According to Valparaiso, Ind., police, Johnathan Ring's serial showering habits came to an end after he allegedly made himself at home in someone else's apartment.
On Sept. 18, officers responded to a call about an "unwanted male" at a man's apartment, according to the police report.
